How to Tell When Labor Has Begun
As labor approaches, the mother begins to experience small and irregular contractions that become regular and infrequent. These contractions, which are the most well-known signs of normal labor, are called Braxton-Hicks contractions. These contractions, which begin at 35 weeks, can be seen for short periods throughout the day. These contractions intensify as labor approaches and the duration of the contractions increases.
Although not always accompanied by contractions, the final stage, known as water breaking, is one of the most well-known signs of labor. As a result of contractions, the water inside the ruptured sac is expelled from the mother’s body. Sometimes the sac may rupture before contractions begin, and there may be a constant feeling of wetness. This should also be noted.
The most significant sign that you are about to give birth is the onset of regular uterine contractions. Initially, these early contractions may feel like menstrual cramps or lower back pain. They occur every 20 to 30 minutes.
The pain or cramps gradually intensify and last longer. The contractions also become more frequent, occurring every three to five minutes. If regular contractions have begun, labor is approaching.
When the baby’s head descends into the birth canal, a strong urge to push occurs. If this symptom is present, it indicates that labor is approaching.
There is a sense of relief in the upper abdomen and diaphragm-stomach area due to the baby descending. This is also a sign that labor is approaching.
What is a Normal Birth?
Normal birth is a natural method of giving birth through the vaginal canal. It consists of three stages. These are:
First Stage: This is the stage when regular contractions begin.
Second Stage: This is when the baby comes out of the womb, i.e., birth.
Third Stage: This begins immediately after the baby is born.
What is a Cesarean Section?
A cesarean section is a surgical procedure in which the baby is delivered through an incision made in the mother’s abdomen. In some cases where natural childbirth is not possible for various reasons, a cesarean section may be performed at the doctor’s discretion. Additionally, compared to natural childbirth, a cesarean section is much shorter and pain-free, so the expectant mother may prefer this option.
What are the advantages of normal birth and cesarean birth?
Advantages of Normal Birth:
